- Start low, balanced and centred.
Bend your knees and keep your weight evenly balanced before you begin the push. - Set the ball into the hook.
Get the ball comfortably into the hook of the stick so you are ready to pull smoothly. - Look at the receiver, not the ball.
Once the ball is set, keep your eyes on the stopper or target. Don’t keep looking down and then back up. - Keep the stick in a strong position.
Don’t let the stick get too low. The top/end of the stick should be roughly in line with your front knee. - Pull the ball smoothly.
Drag it firmly along the turf rather than hitting or snatching at it. - Stand Up
Stand up as you deliver the ball to give the stick enough space to stay strait - Push through with your legs and body.
Use your legs and body movement to create speed while staying low and balanced. - Follow through in a straight line.
Keep your hands and stick travelling directly towards the receiver rather than swinging across your body. - Move into your next position.
As soon as you release the ball, get onto the pitch and be ready for the return ball or next phase.
Low → hook → eyes up → knee-height stick → pull → push → straight → move.
