- Start low and balanced
Bend your knees, stay relaxed and approach the ball with your body moving forwards. - Get the ball slightly in front of you
Give yourself space to drag it rather than getting cramped over the ball.
- Keep the ball close to the stick
Guide it smoothly across the turf so you stay in control throughout the drag. - Let your top hand lead
For a right-handed flick, let your left hand guide the stick and the ball through the first part of the movement. - Build speed through the drag
Start smoothly, then gradually accelerate the stick instead of snatching at the ball. - Transfer your weight forwards
Move from your back leg onto your front leg as the ball travels. - Rotate, then whip through
Turn your hips and shoulders towards goal and let the hands and stick accelerate through the end of the movement. - Release and follow through at the target
Flick the ball just ahead of your front foot, then finish balanced with your stick and body going towards where you want the ball to go.
Low → close → lead → drag → speed → transfer → whip → finish.
